I am complicated: an information seeker, reader, technophile, dancer, business owner, native of LA but lover of San Francisco...and this is what I've learned.
Things I Wish I Knew
Whew…I’ve been guilty of pretty much all of these at some point in my life, some more habitually than others. But, as this list seems to point out, the strength comes not only from recognizing what you do that is destructive or unproductive, but from recognizing those patterns and doing something to change them.
Working in fitness/movement, this comes up a lot and all I have to say about this is motivation is a 2 way street. You can have someone feeding you all of their energy and trying to motivate you, but if you don’t meet them somewhere (even if it’s more on your side of the street at first), you will never be able to accomplish anything with that motivation.
Show up, and get it done.

I seriously was just having this conversation with a single friend the other day.
One of the best pieces of advice a friend ever gave me was that you don’t have to stay friends with someone after you break up with them. Chances are, your only interactions with them before your relationship were when at least one of you was interested in the other one and wanted to be “more than friends”.
If you didn’t have a true friendship before your relationship, how are you supposed to have one afterwards?

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.
So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.
”To 2012!
